Paw Balm: The Essential Solution for Protecting Paws in Winter
Winter brings more than just the cold weather —it can wreak havoc on our dog’s paws! Just like our hands and lips can get chapped in the frosty weather, our dogs can face the same issue with their paws. But cold weather isn't the only culprit – road salt can cause a whole host of discomforts for our fluffy friends (1).
The Dangers of Road Salt
Our dogs love exploring the outdoors, and nothing excites them more than a good walk. Unfortunately, the big outside world isn’t free of harm for our dogs. Salts can be a real hidden danger for dogs. Whilst salts are used to keep humans safe during the winter months, preventing accidents and slips or falls for pedestrians, they pose a real threat for pets.
How Salt Affects your Pets Paws
Irritation and Burns: Salts can get trapped between paw pads which leads to irritation, redness, and sometimes painful burning. If these burns are left untreated it can lead to even more painful infections.
Dryness and Cracking: Salts can also dehydrate paws which causes dry, cracked and painful pads. It can also encourage bacteria which can lead to further infections.
Toxicity Risk from Ingestion: Salts can also be ingested by dogs when they lick their paws. Of course, this is a very natural habit of dogs when they return from a walk. However, many salts are mixed with anti-freeze products which are toxic to pets. This can cause nasty side effects such as vomiting, diarrhoea and even kidney failure in some severe cases.
Paw Balm: The Perfect Solution
Thankfully, there is a solution! It's called Paw Balm, and it acts both as a soother for already cracked, dry and irritated paws whilst preventing it happening going forward. The balm should be applied up to twice a day, after their walk and/or before bedtime. This allows the balm to soak into the paws. The balm is an efficient solution to protect paws from extreme temperatures and harmful chemicals when walking on roads, keeping our beloved pets happy and healthy.
Conclusion
Paw balm is hand crafted with four-legged friends in mind, protecting their paws from harm. It is formulated with nourishing, natural ingredients to care for damaged problem areas. Continued use of the product also acts to prevent the issue from resurfacing in the future. At the core of the product is the desire to keep our pets safe, happy and enjoying the great outdoors.
